I can not believe that my baby is going to be three years old a week from today. I was thinking about how I am so glad that I started this blog and how I really wish that I had started it earlier. I find it difficult even now to have the time to write about what is going on in our lives. Life truly goes by too fast. For those of you who have children, you know this is painfully true.
However, in thinking about Brooks today, I thought of several things that he said when he was younger that I really wanted to have in writing so I would always remember them and be able to share them with him later...
Brooks was running through the house one day and I yelled at him (sounding like every parent before my time), "Brooks! Don't run with scissors!"
His reply, "But Mom, they are safety scissors!"
About 6 months ago, Brooks was going through a phase where he hated having his diaper changed. Thank God we are almost done with potty training now. However, on this day, he needed a diaper change and I cradled him in my arms to carry him to our changing table (aka dog kennel with a cushion on top) in our bedroom. He looked up at me, waived his hand in front of my face, closed his eyes, and said, "I'm changing your mind.... I'm changing your mind..." Honestly, it was so funny, it almost worked. :-)
So now, for the more recent antics at the Davis house...
Ryden is now walking (practically running). He took his time getting there, but is making up for it now. Our house, when all of the bedroom doors are opened up, allows you to walk through in a complete circle. This is great fun for riding tricycles or playing tag. (Justin and I used to actually rollerblade through the house in our younger days.) Anyway, Ryden is now making his way around and around through the house. Everytime he passes our snake, Charlotte, in the hallway, he stops and says in his little southern accent, "Hi snake! Ssssssssssss!"
Side note- I still can not for the life of me figure out why my kids have this ridiculous southern accent. For now, it is adorable, so I will appreciate it. We will work on it in the future, though. :-)
The boys' aunt Katie was at the house last week and we were in the living room visiting with her and playing with baby Jay, when we decided that the house was eerily quiet. I went looking for the boys only to find both of them in Karma's (the dog's) kennel with the lights out and a flashlight, kicking at each other and cracking up. It is adorable to watch them entertain each other so well.
The boys have decided that they love Lucky Charms cereal. Brooks had a bowl and had eaten all of the marshmallows out of it. He handed the bowl of plain left-over cereal to Ryden and said, "Here RyRy, this is for you." Then he says, "See Mommy, I'm sharing."
I was reading a book to Brooks the other night and he tried to hand me his cup.
Brooks: "Hold this Mommy."
Me: "I can't. I'm trying to read a book to you."
Brooks: "Well, you've got two hands."
Brooks: "Mommy, I don't want a shark to eat our koi fish, do you?"
Me: "No, baby"
Brooks: "Well, what are we going to do about that?"
Kassy: "Well, what are you going to do about that?"
On a deeper note, Dad had quadruple bypass surgery last week. He went in for an arterial dye test a week ago, Monday and went straight to Mercy Heart Hospital from there. He is recovering better than even I expected and he is one hell of a trooper. I just mention it because it has really put things into perspective for me and made me realize, even more than before, just how lucky I am to have my family. They mean more to me than anything and I do not take even one second for granted. Please hug your mom, dad, kids, spouse, siblings, and friends and tell them that you love them.

Last part of the winter storm
Well, the weather has gotten much better- it has gone from below zero to 70 degrees within a week. Crazy Oklahoma weather! I forgot to mention some of the funnier things that Brooks said during the "Blizzard of 2011."
The newscasters kept talking about the "Big blizzard outside." At one point, Brooks was looking out the window and said, "Mom, I don't see the big lizard that they keep talking about." :-)
My friend, Shane Faulkner, is a newscaster for Channel 4. Of course, during the inclement weather, he was working during the day and was on TV much more than usual, reporting about the weather and road conditions. Brooks finally looked at me and said, "Mommy, I'm tired of watching Shane. Can we please watch one of my shows now?"
Of course, being inside as much as we were during the snow, the house looked like a complete wreck. There were toys scattered from one end to the other. Justin asked Brooks to pick up his toys. Brooks got his "magic wand," touched Justin with it and said, "I turned you into a helper. You will help me now." Brilliant!
Both boys are sick right now. Justin stayed home with Ryden and took him to the pediatrician. He has a viral infection and an ear infection. Brooks and Justin have the flu. :-( I am trying to keep my sanity during this time and stay well myself. I'm doubling up on vitamins and drinking lots and lots of fluids. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get it. Until next time...

Snow Break!!
We were snowed in for a few days (due to what Oklahomans are calling the Snowpocalypse 2011). During this time, the boys and I spent almost a full week together. I honestly think that by day 6 they were tired of me and really missing Grandma and Grandpa. I thought I would list a few of the cuter things that they did during our time together...
I was putting Brooks down for a nap. He always wants me to make up a story, but he gives me specifics about what he wants. (Ex. I want a story about 2 reindeer and a moose. Or I want a story about a lion and his lion cub.) So, he tells me he wants to hear a story about a butterfly. So, I start out, "Once upon a time, there was a little caterpillar..." He says, "No, Mommy. It is already a butterfly, not a caterpillar." Seriously?!
At one point, it was snowing really hard outside. Brooks had taken a toilet paper roll and was running around blowing into it. He was looking out the window and said, "I've been calling the buffalo bison. They must be lost or in their homes all toasty warm because they haven't come to my house yet."
We took the boys sledding with some close friends of ours- the Howards. Ryden absolutely loved it. The next day, he had gotten the sled back out and was sitting on it when I came into the playroom. He was totally ready to go again!
We went to the Howards' to watch the Superbowl. We had a better time than any Superbowl party we ever had before kids. The Robinsons came with their 2 kiddos.
Brooks came running out of Haley's room screaming, "Mom, Haley's mad at me." When I asked why, he said, "Because she wants me to be the princess and I don't want to be the princess!"

Snow Day!!!
Have I mentioned that I love my job??? Yesterday, we had just enough ice on the roads to close OKC schools for the day. Justin decided to stay home with the boys and me, so we all cooked breakfast and relaxed all day. Karma even had a full plate of bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy... I love unexpected days at home with the kids!
Brooks and Ryden were playing at one point when I noticed that all-too-familiar odor of poopy diaper. I asked who it was and Brooks told me that it was him and that he needed his diaper changed. I carried him to our bedroom to change him and while I was in the process he asked, "You are putting a new diaper on me, right Mommy?" Me- "Of course I am." Him- "Good, cause I really want one without the poop on it."
He keeps telling me that he is scared of pooping in the toilet but he can't tell me exactly what he is scared of. I have heard that this is a big deal for some kids, but haven't quite figured out what to do about it...
Later that evening, after Ryden had gone to bed, Brooks and I were watching Peter Pan (Disney version). All of a sudden, he jumped up from the couch, ran over to the dining room table and started trying to climb onto the table. Mother's instinct clicked in and I ran over just in time to catch him before he attempted to "fly" off of the table. I told him that the movie was pretend and that he really couldn't fly. He said, "But they said all you have to do is think of Christmas!" :-)

Wishing that I had started this sooner. :-(
Last night, Brooks and Ryden had me in tears. I was literally cracking up at the little things they were doing. I have been telling myself that I need to start writing down the cute things that they do so that I won't forget them, or so I can use it against them at some point later in their lives. Brooks is now 2 1/2 and although I swore that I couldn't ever possibly forget the hilarious things he has said and done, two back-to-back pregnancies and taking care of two kids has caused some sort of memory breakdown for me... This blog is meant to really be like a diary of sorts for myself, my husband and my kiddos; however, anyone who wants an occasional chuckle or is incredibly bored is more than welcome to follow along.
So here goes-
Last night, I was clipping Brooks' fingernails after his bath. Since he was little, I have clipped them almost all the way, but let him pull them off (he loves to do this). He usually puts the clippings on the countertop of the sink and then we brush them into the sink when we are done. However, this time, he was carefully arranging the clippings into a shape. He said, " I am making a face- this is fingernail art. Cut the next one, Mommy 'cause he needs hair." I let him make his face, cracking up the whole time. I thought he was done looking at it and so I pushed them off into the sink like normal. He looked at me with his little lip in a pout and said (quietly and dramatically), "Why did you do that? I loved him." Then, he kissed me and started giggling.
I may have to go back and post some things from the past, just as I remember them. This time is so precious and Ryden is quickly developing a serious personality. I know that I will appreciate doing this in the future...
